Numerical Study of the Robustness of Steel Frames with Bolted End-Plate Joints Subjected to Sudden and Gradual Internal Column Loss

Abstract The research project was carried out to estimate the robustness of flat steel-framed structures in a selected accidental situation. For this purpose, multistage approach based on experimental tests and numerical analysis performed. As main objective work, dynamic steel frames performed under sudden gradual internal column loss scenario. FEA models were created Abaqus software using solid shell elements. Computer analyzes number different cases, taking into account size structure, type joints, method removing from structure. Detailed results axial forces rotation joints are presented, is estimated. In all cases with flush end-plate an insufficient level observed failures obtained. application extended frame analysis, required reached stop collapse Finally, practical recommendations for designing robust whole structure presented.
